Disclaimer

EmploymentWise gives information, not legal advice. Nothing on this site is advice about your own situation, no page or tool says whether a particular dismissal was unfair, a deduction unlawful or a redundancy genuine, and reading it does not create a solicitor-client relationship with anyone.

What the content is

The guides describe the employment law of the Republic of Ireland as published in the Acts, the statutory instruments, the WRC’s codes of practice and official guidance, with the date each page was last checked. The tools apply those published rules to the dates and figures you enter. Whether a dismissal was fair, a deduction lawful or a redundancy genuine turns on facts and procedure that only an adjudicator or a court can weigh.

Figures

Statutory periods, rates and caps come from the named primary source and carry the date they took effect. Revenue’s exemption figures for ex gratia payments are planning inputs marked for verification. Reported awards are matters of public record with a dated source and are not a prediction of any case; an award under appeal is said to be under appeal. An employer’s own figure for your redundancy, leave or notice may differ for contractual reasons, and the contract or scheme is what applies.

Statutory wording

Citizens Information and the Irish Statute Book blocked automated checks when this site was researched, so some wording was taken from the WRC’s own pages, Department releases and law-firm commentary and is marked in the site’s configuration, and on the sources page, as awaiting a check against the Act. Where a page and the Act differ, the Act is right.

Changes in the law

The minimum wage, the benefit rates and the sick-pay days change by order, and 2026 brought several changes. The rule-change tracker records what is in force, what is enacted but not commenced and what is only announced, and keeps them apart. A page that was accurate when verified may be overtaken; check the date on it.

Your own case

For decisions about your own situation, speak to your union, or to a solicitor regulated by the Law Society of Ireland. Civil legal aid does not cover WRC cases. If work is affecting your mental health, the stress and bullying guides carry the numbers to ring.

Independence

EmploymentWise is not affiliated with the Workplace Relations Commission, the Labour Court, the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, the Department of Social Protection, Revenue or any trade union, and no State body, union or regulator has reviewed its content.
