Chapter 6 of 10 · Trouble at work · Letter builder
What do I write?
Checked 13 Oct 2026the Code of Practice for Employers and Employees on the Prevention and Resolution of Bullying at Work and the GDPR.
Three letters people need most, built from your own answers in your own words: a formal grievance (facts, dates, the outcome you want, the right to be accompanied), a data-access request for your personnel file with the one-month deadline, and a request to confirm a verbal decision in writing. Nothing is stored or sent.
What are you writing?
- This builds the text of a letter in your own words. It is not legal advice and nothing is stored or sent.
- A grievance goes to the person your employer's procedure names, usually your manager or HR; check the procedure in your contract or handbook first.
- Keep a dated copy of everything you send and every reply. The case file on this site can hold the dates.
- If you are in a union, show the letter to your representative before sending it.
- The builder does not draft a WRC complaint (use the WRC's own form) or a reply to a settlement agreement (that needs a solicitor).

No. 146/2000), that I be invited to a meeting to discuss it, and that I be told the outcome in writing with the right to appeal. I would like to be accompanied at any meeting by [a colleague or my union representative]. Please acknowledge receipt of this grievance in writing and tell me the timescale for the investigation. Yours sincerely, [Your full name]
Built in your browser from your answers. Nothing is stored or sent to this site. Square brackets mark what is still missing.
The builder does not draft a WRC complaint (the WRC's own form is the route) or a reply to a settlement agreement, and it does not advise on what to say. It is free, generic and in your words.
