No obligation · For employees
Ask a solicitor about your situation
Say what has happened. A solicitor who acts for employees at the WRC and in the courts will contact you. The free routes come first on this site, and your union comes before this page; it is for when they are not enough.
Frequently asked questions
How much does this cost?
Asking is free and carries no obligation. If you engage the solicitor, their fees are agreed between you and them, and they must give you a written costs notice under section 150 of the Legal Services Regulation Act 2015. EmploymentWise is paid by the partner firm for qualified enquiries; "just researching" enquiries are never counted or charged, and the disclosure page says exactly how it works. The WRC does not award costs to either side, so whoever you bring, you pay.
Should I ring my union instead?
If you are a member, yes, first: unions advise and represent members at the WRC at no charge. This site says so on every dismissal, discipline and bullying guide. The form is for people who are not in a union, or whose union cannot take the matter.
Who will see my details?
Only EmploymentWise and the solicitor firm. The form collects your name, email, what it is about, when it happened, how you want to be contacted, and a phone number only if you give one or ask for a call. Your employer's name and nothing you typed into a tool is collected. You can ask for deletion at any time.
What happens next?
Your enquiry reaches the solicitor within a minute. They contact you, usually within one business day, the way you asked. Whether you go further is your call.
Do I need a solicitor at the WRC at all?
Often not. Many people represent themselves, the adjudicator explains the process, and no costs are awarded. A solicitor earns their fee where the claim is complex (equality, protected disclosures), the loss is large, a settlement agreement is on the table, or the employer is represented and the facts are contested. The guide on whether you need one is honest about it.
Is there legal aid for employment cases?
Civil legal aid does not cover WRC cases. FLAC runs free advice clinics, the Citizens Information Board offers advocacy, and a union represents members for free.
Information, not legal advice. Rules, rates and WRC practice change, and no page here can say whether a particular dismissal was unfair, a deduction unlawful or a redundancy genuine. EmploymentWise is an independent site, not affiliated with the Workplace Relations Commission, the Labour Court, the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, the Department of Social Protection, Revenue or any trade union. It covers the Republic of Ireland only. For decisions about your own situation, speak to your union or a solicitor regulated by the Law Society of Ireland.
